The public has until 26 June left to provide feedback to the Shire of Augusta Margaret River on the revised Local Energy Action Plan (LEAP).

The plan, drafted with the goal of reducing greenhouse emissions generated in the region, proposes objectives and actions to achieve increased use of alternative energy sources by both the Shire and the community.

Council endorsed the plan for advertising earlier this month and will adopt a final plan in the new financial year after the community has had opportunity to review it and make comment.

Shire Sustainable Planning Officer Jared Drummond said key outcomes of the proposed plan include increasing community uptake of renewable energy to 20% by 2020.

“I would encourage local community members to provide feedback on the document as it directly impacts on the future of renewable energy and energy conservation in the Shire,” he said.
